The sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, has been slated for a Memorial Day 2014 release!

There’s no word yet on the storyline. I have heard Andy Serkis will be returning as Caesar. Not sure about James Franco. As much as I would like to see him back, the franchise could probably continue without him. It will be interesting to see what trajectory the story takes, and what references (if any) it makes to the story lines from the original films.

The other big sequel announced is the the yet unnamed X-Men First Class follow up.  This one is set for July 18th, 2014. No official casting has been set yet. Hopefully James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will be back. Fox reportedly delayed production around Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Games schedule, so she presumably will be returning.

There have been a few rumors that Fox registered the title Days of Future Past, which is the same title as a two-part story arc from the X-Men comic series. The story arc apparently involves time travel. I’m not familiar with the story line, but in my opinion the title Fox registered (assuming this is all true) may not have anything to do with that old story line. It’s hard to say at this point. It could just be a title they liked.
