Just a quick note about a HUGE title coming from Paramount Home Entertainment and Lucasfilm Ltd. on September 18, 2012 – Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventureson Blu-ray! This five-disc collection will contain all four Indiana Jones adventures for the first time in 1080p high definition. This promises to be a truly fantastic set and I, for one, can’t wait to delve into it (review to come, eventually but ASAP, on Blogcritics.org and here).
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Steven Spielberg supervised what the press release calls the “meticulous, frame-by-frame” 4K restoration of Raiders of the Lost Ark. This was done utilizing the original film negative. I think we can safely expect a truly noticeable upgrade in visual quality from the standard DVD. Sound designer Ben Burtt supervised the 5.1 DTS-HD MA remix, which utilized the elements from the original master mix. According the Paramount’s announcement, the original master mix was “archived and unused since 1981.”
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
More information to come regarding the “new bonus features” promised in the press release. But it’s good to know there will apparently be more than just the previous DVD special features ported over. Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, which carries a $99.99 MSRP, is currently available for pre-order (Amazon.com has it for $74.96 as of today, July 3!).
