Ever wish you could see a real-life recreation of the famous snake pit scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark? Attendees of Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego were treated to the closest thing possible this week—a huge glass display filled with Indy-related artifacts, including a golden ark, hieroglyphs, and yes, enough live snakes to make your skin crawl.

This was, of course, a promotion for the rabidly anticipated Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures five-disc Blu-ray set—containing all four feature films plus seven hours of bonus material—due September 18, 2012 from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Media Distribution.

The film that started it all, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), has undergone a frame-by-frame 4K restoration that promises to present a more pristine image than we’ve seen since the film first hit theaters 31 years ago. Director Steven Spielberg supervised the process, while Ben Burtt—sound designer for all four Indy movies (and Oscar winner for two, Raiders and Last Crusade)—oversaw the audio restoration.

The September 18 release marks the first time all four films in the series will be available in 1080p high definition (only 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been released on Blu-ray to date). Details have yet to be announced regarding supplemental content, but the official press release promised “new bonus features.”

As evidenced by the photos (and the video footage from the event below), the “snake pit” appears to have been quite a hit with Comic-Con attendees. With millions of Indy fans worldwide, the Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures Blu-ray, currently available for pre-order at online retailers, will surely be a brisk seller come September 18.
