When expertly photographed, surfing is vividly cinematic—as exciting to watch as any sport. Generally overlooked in its two weeks of wide theatrical release, Chasing Mavericks promises to be a wave-riding treat in high definition. Audiences will have a second chance to discover the coming-of-age biopic of surfer Jay Moriarity, Chasing Mavericks, when it arrives on Blu-ray (and DVD) February 26, 2013. Intriguingly, the film was co-directed by two “name” directors: Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile) and Michael Apted (the acclaimed Up documentary series, The World is Not Enough).
Official Synopsis: Chasing Mavericks is the inspirational true story of real-life surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (played by newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15-year-old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it.
