The Walking Dead is out of Atlanta and we couldn’t be happier. Nothing against Atlanta, but the time to see other places has been long overdue. This week we get to see a new community, where survivors have attempted to set up a “normal” life. We’ve seen how wrong that’s gone in the past with Woodbury and Terminus, but every place is different. It’s hard to believe that everyone would have any faith that Alexandria would be a safe haven, but I guess that desire to get out of their situation is a strong one. Or at least they think it is…

The Cool:

Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) new look – We can’t be the only ones who were getting tired of the beard.

Glenn stands up to Aiden – Glenn (Steven Yeun) hasn’t had a lot to do lately and it was cool to see him jump into action and put Aiden (Daniel Bonjour) in his place. It reminded of me of the old Glenn – the one who astounded everyone with his natural survival skills when the gang went back for Merle (Michael Rooker) on the Atlanta rooftop.

Rick is a cop again – I don’t know what’s going on in Alexandria, but I like seeing Rick have a purpose. He seemed to like his position of authority too, maybe a little too much. If things don’t work out he wants to take over the place.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) is an outcast again – Not with his group, but with the people of the town. He doesn’t fit in and he doesn’t want to – or at least he knows it’s a lost cause. He is skeptical about their future in Alexandria and so are we.

We don’t know exactly what Carol is up to, but we like it – Carol (Melissa McBride) hardly fits in any more than Daryl does, but she’s pretending. For a moment I was confused when she said she misses her “wonderful husband,” and then I realized she was putting on an act – notice she didn’t mention her daughter at all. And those clothes? Her Stepford wife routine should allow her to blend in and gain information.

What is up with Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh)? – She video tapes all her interviews for “transparency,” but I have a feeling it might be so she can use their own words against them at some point. The interview segments reminded me a little of World War Z, not the movie, but the book, which I thought was a cool nod – if it was intentional. The biggest question – why is she so anxious to incorporate Rick and the gang into the town? Is there unrest and she want them on her side? Something more sinister? It seems strange that she immediately gave Rick a position of power.

Enid (Katelyn Nacon) – Like Carl, she grew up on the outside and is having trouble trying to pretend to be a typical teen. Looks like Carl will finally have something to do on the show. Who gets the feeling everyone in this town is pretending?

The Not So Cool:

Nothing – like last week, we don’t really have any complaints about this episode. We love that they’re doing something new and looking forward to seeing where they’re going with it. Hopefully they don’t wrap it up too soon, like Terminus.
