Wayward Pines S1 Ep7 Ethan

Coming after the two previous episodes, which were full of secrets and revelations, this week’s episode of Wayward Pines felt a little less exciting. That being said, there were a lot of good things about “Betrayal.” Wayward Pines Academy is the most interesting, and weird, place on the show, and this week was no exception. I’m still not sure where this is all going to end up, but that’s of course by design. I’m looking forward to seeing the final episodes of the season and what’s to become of everyone in Wayward Pines.

Kate and Harold have their annual fertility consultation with Pam.

The cool:

The truck bomb: This pretty much was the episode. Everything in the episode pointed to this moment. We knew as soon as Amy (Sarah Jeffrey) asked Ben (Charlie Tahan) to sneak out of the house that they were going to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was the shakeup we needed to knock people into action.

Sex ed in Wayward Pines is very different than in other places: It’s not too often schools are encouraging students to go forth and multiply, but that’s exactly what’s happening at Wayward Pines. It’s really all they can look forward to. There are no careers in the normal sense and if they want to repopulate the human race they’re going to have to get started young.

Wayward Pines S1 Ep7 Ben and Amy

Ben tells his mom he’s happier in Wayward Pines: Maybe it’s the promise of sanctioned teen sex, but Ben has drunk the Flavor Aid and wants to stay right where he is.

The not so cool:

Theresa refuses to look at the big picture: Even when Ethan (Matt Dillon) tells Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) what’s really going on, she refuses to believe it. I understand it’s hard to believe, but turning to Kate (Carla Gugino) hardly seems like the right thing to do. Theresa would rather take the word of her husband’s former lover than him?

Final thoughts: Did Kate’s words put any doubt in your mind, despite what we’ve seen? Of course she has no way of really knowing, but I still can’t help but think there is a big piece of the puzzle missing.
