The basics of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s recent release of Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season are pretty straightforward. The Blu-ray edition of the popular CW Network show contains all 23 episodes on four discs, all presented in 1080p high definition and boasting DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio. Season 11 begins on October 7, 2015, so now’s the perfect time to get caught up. Those who’ve been keeping up with the series for the past decade certainly give this tenth season, focused on the Winchesters’ Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), a built-audience. A fan-pleasing array of special features makes this an irresistible acquisition for said audience.

Season ten highlights (certainly highly variable from viewer-to-viewer) include “Paint It Black” (episode 16), which finds the investigative brothers Sam and Dean looking into a possible ghostly possession in a Massachusetts town that led to a trio of murders. Episode 13 “Halt & Catch Fire” offers up a unique incorporation of the internet as the Winchester brothers find themselves in Iowa, taking a closer look at a bizarre, fatal automobile accident. Felicia Day makes a few welcome appearances as Charlie Bradbury, including “There’s No Place Like Home” (episode 11). This is a call-back to season nine – another Wizard of Oz-themed episode – is basically a tale of two Charlies (the brothers encounter a dark version of Charlie).

But enough of listing highpoints – the special features are one of the main reasons to collect the series on home video. The Complete Tenth Season doesn’t disappoint, offering quite a bit of material to keep fans busy. The nearly hour-long documentary “Supernatural Fans” is arguably the best thing. It essentially pays touching, extensive tribute to the devoted, hardcore fan base that has made Supernatural the phenomenon it is. “A Very Special Supernatural Special” runs a half hour and offers a condensed history of the series. There are are also deleted scenes for select episodes and a short gag reel.

Three episodes (“The Hunter Games,” “There’s No Place Like Home,” and “The Executioner’s Song””) have audio commentary. There’s “Supernatural at Comic-Con 2014,” giving fans who couldn’t be there (i.e. most of the show’s fans) a front row seat to the panel. There’s also the featurette “Supernatural Theatre: Staging the 200th Episode.” A 20-minute featurette “The Winchester Mythology: Battling the Mark of The Blade” is a slickly-produced series of behind-the-scenes material and interviews with the show’s creative team. The Blu-ray package includes downloadable Digital HD copies of each episode.
