With a new 3D theatrical movie on the way, the Peanuts gang is as popular as ever. For their latest repackaging of the classic animated TV specials, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has taken the classy route. All 11 specials found on the two-disc Peanuts: Emmy Honored Collection either received or were at least nominated for an Emmy Award.
This is a great selection, although it’s worth pointing out these are not all of the Peanuts specials that have been honored by the Emmy’s. Each of the following was at least nominated for an Emmy: A Charlie Brown Christmas (won), It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, You’re in Love, Charlie Brown, He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (won). I guess maybe it makes sense for the holiday-themed ones to be held off the collection, just because they’ve had their own collection. But it seems a bit strange for the non-holiday specials to be cast aside.
Another head-scratcher is the fact that Warner Bros. press materials have referred to these collected as having been “brilliantly remastered in all-new 4K Ultra HD transfers.” If that’s indeed the case, where is the Blu-ray release? Regardless, this is still a lot of great family entertainment in one package. And a couple of these specials have not appeared on DVD before, despite the continual repackaging that Warner has put these shows through.
