“Not Tomorrow Yet” takes us into some murky territory on The Walking Dead. Are our heroes still the good guys or have they become what they’ve been fighting all along? Maybe kill or be killed is all that’s left to this world. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) convincing the group to invade Negan’s compound isn’t far off from the Governor convincing his new followers to invade the prison. All we have is the word of the Hilltop folks that Negan is a bad guy.

Granted, the two guards that came out to get Gregory’s head didn’t seem like nicest guys around, but neither did Gregory (Xander Berekley). Were all the people sleeping in there bad? I guess we’ll find out more as the rest of the season unfolds.

The cool and not so cool this week

The Cool:

Carol leaves a cookie at Sam’s grave: Carol (Melissa McBride) hasn’t all her humanity. Maybe she feels a little bad about what she had said to Sam.

The ending: Just when we thought it was all too easy, a woman’s voice says they have Carol and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). I guess they didn’t get all the bad guys after all. Also Michonne (Danai Gurira) wondered which one was Negan. You’d have thought Jesus (Tom Payne) might have checked to make sure Negan had been killed. Or is that all a part of it?

Eugene enjoying Carol’s cookies: It’s been a while since we’ve had a good Eugene (Josh McDermitt) moment, but we got one in this episode. Rosita (Christian Serratos) is devastated by Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) cruelty and all Eugene can say is that the acorn-beet cookies Carol made are “chewy.”

The not so cool:

Cold-blooded murder: Knifing people in their sleep crosses the line of doing what you have to do to survive.

Abraham breaks up with Rosita in the most callous way: Not knocking the storytelling here, but Abraham’s “I thought you were the last girl on earth, but you’re not” speech was pretty cold. It’s interesting that their world has come to a place where people can actually break up. Usually it’s ‘til death do us part, with death being sooner rather than later.

I wish AMC hadn’t announced the casting of Negan: If we didn’t already know that Jeffrey Dean Morgan had been cast as the new bad guy Negan, there would be a lot more mystery going on. All we know from the show is that the men Daryl (Norman Reedus) took out worked for Negan and that the Hilltop people are scared of him. If we didn’t know the casting then we would be wondering who Negan is. Maybe he’s Jesus or the mysterious woman’s voice. It would have added more tension to this episode if we thought maybe he was around.

Final thoughts: What was up with Morgan (Lennie James)? He didn’t go on the raid. Obviously that’s not his style these days, but what is he building?
