Ladies and gentleman, we’re celebrating the release of the new album by The Chaz Lipp Groove Tripp, Good Merlin, with a CD giveaway! Five winners will receive Good Merlin!
Enter by midnight July 11, 2017 using the Rafflecopter form below (U.S. only, must 18 or over, no P.O. boxes).
What does this music release have to do with the movies and/or television that we normally cover on Cinema Lowdown? That’s easy—we’ve habitually reviewed and recapped American Idol (and are stoked for the return of the venerable show on ABC). One of the most popular, polarizing, notorious, and yes—talented—finalists to ever grace American Idol is the featured vocalist throughout the Groove Tripp’s Good Merlin!
That would be Sanjaya Malakar, Mr. Ponyhawk himself (and also, lest we forget, the guy who wowed Jennifer Lopez with his seductive rendition of the classic standard “Besame Mucho”), who toured nationally after finishing in the Top Ten finalists on Idol season six. Sanjaya went on to become a pop culture icon (one who still get referenced in the media, including a mention on Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” last season).
Saxophonist and Groove Tripp bandleader Chaz Lipp (also one of the site managers here at Cinema Lowdown) blends his vigorous solos with Sanjaya’s mature vocals. Good Merlin is essentially an album of duets between sax and voice on timeless songs including “Georgia On My Mind,” “God Bless the Child,” “Summertime,” “Fever,” “Nature Boy,” and a couple of Chaz’s instrumental originals for good measure. While Sanjaya may have been on the receiving end of many jokes over the years, his time on American Idol was quite a few years ago—this album presents a Sanjaya as you’ve never heard him before.
Five lucky winners will be drawn at random and notified via email. The winners will have 48 hours to respond to our notification with their complete name and U.S. mailing address (no PO Boxes). Failure to respond within 48 hours will result in forfeiture and another winner will be selected. For complete giveaway rules, Giveaway Rules and Restrictions.
